River problems are very intricate and require scientific investigation and research in a laboratory with a view to arriving at correct solution before actually launching a scheme, which is generally very costly. The researches on river and other hydraulic problems result in economizing the different projects of water resources development and guard against waste of huge expenditure that may be incurred in executing defective schemes. The expenditure involved in carrying out researches and investigations for a project/ scheme is insignificant compared to the total project cost.
